Fans Are Mourning the Loss of Jason Momoa's Magnificent Beard

Last year, Superman himself, Henry Cavill, shaved his beloved mustache in a viral video, forcing fans to bid a sad farewell to what had been dubbed "Kingstache." On Thursday, facial hair aficionados everywhere were dealt an even more crushing blow. Our very own real-life Aquaman, Jason Momoa, shaved his beard for the first time since 2012.
The 39-year-old actor made the announcement in a four-minute YouTube video (and in a shorter clip on Instagram). He said goodbye to some of the characters that made him and his glorious beard so famous, including Drogo, the former Dothraki leader on Game of Thrones. But, as Momoa explained, he was making the ultimate sacrifice all in the name of saving the planet.

"I'm SHAVING this beast off, It's time to make a change," he wrote in his Instagram caption. "A change for the better…for my kids, your kids, the world. Let's make a positive change for the health of our planet. Let's clean up our oceans, our land. Join me on this journey. Let's make the switch to infinitely recyclable aluminum."
Yes, he did it for a good cause, but we weren't ready.
This is a public service announcement — it is with a heavy heart that I must announce the passing of Jason Momoa's beard. It was seven years old.

We had no warning. We didn't have a chance to properly say goodbye.
Jason Momoa has shaven off his beard.
I- we've arrived at an interesting point in our relationship and would be extremely greatful if you could respect our privacy during this trying and emotional time. Tysm xx

At least we'll always have the memories… and Momoa will have that luscious head of hair.
Anyway, it is well. We move.
It's been fun Jase! We'll always have Comic Con. ♥️

We should also all heed his call, if not for the sake of our children, then simply so that this loss is not in vain. And if you're looking for ways to help the planet, check out the 13 Charities to Consider Giving to on Earth Day.
