Olympian Bode Miller Says Delivering His Twin Boys Was "One of the More Crazy Things" He's Ever Experienced

On Nov. 8, former World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller, 42, and his wife, Morgan Miller, 32, welcomed two identical twin boys into the world. On Tuesday, the Olympian took to Instagram to post a stunning photo of his "speed racer boys," who have not yet been named. And he also revealed that he ended up delivering the twins himself with the help of his mother, after the midwives arrived too late for the home birth. It was something he called "one of the more crazy things" he's ever experienced in his life, when reached by phone.
"There are no words for moments like this," Bode wrote in his Instagram post of the boys on Tuesday. "Thirty minutes of labor to bring us one of the greatest gifts and experiences we've ever received."

In an interview with Today, Bode revealed that by the time the midwives arrived, he and his mom were holding the babies. "Luckily my mom was a midwife, but she hadn't delivered babies in 20-plus years, and she never delivered twins," he said. "We were both pretty relaxed and pretty casual, but we were certainly not qualified to be doing an unassisted home delivery of twins!"
"For Bode to get to deliver his identical twin boys with his mom—it was just pure magic," Morgan added.
She also posted a few photos of the new additions to their family on Tuesday, saying that the day she gave birth "couldn't have been scripted and aligned more perfectly" and that the "birth story is mind blowing."

The story is especially incredible considering that the couple is still mourning the tragic loss of their 19-month-old daughter, Emmy, who drowned in a neighbor's pool in June 2018.
Morgan paid tribute to her late daughter in a poignant Instagram post last August, when she also announced that she was expecting identical twins. She said that they "knew Emmy had her hands in this miracle somehow."

"We carry Emmy with us every day," Morgan told Today in August. "That part doesn't ever get easier, but we just imagine what it would be like to have her there, and we share our tears and we share our memories and we revisit stories. Keeping her a part of our family has really made this journey a little bit easier for our family."
