The One Reason Rupert Grint Will Finally Watch the "Harry Potter" Movies

Fans around the world have seen the Harry Potter movies time and time again—especially since there always seems to be a marathon on TV. But the actor behind one of the main characters has never seen the films in their entirety. Yes, Rupert Grint just admitted he hasn't watched all of the Harry Potter movies. "I've probably seen the first three at the premieres, but after that I stopped watching them," Grint told Variety in a new interview.
That said, he has a new reason to finish watching them one day. "Now that I have a daughter, I will probably have to watch them with her," he said. Still, that will be a long time from now as Grint and his partner, actor Georgia Groome, welcomed their daughter, Wednesday, in May 2020.

This isn't the first time Grint said he can't watch the Harry Potter movies.
In a 2018 interview with Radio Times, Grint said that he felt he would be able to watch the first three movies again, but not go past that point in the franchise.
"I think those early ones are OK. More time has passed. I can detach myself a bit more from that kid," he said. "I did see Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone not long ago, for the first time since the premiere, and I actually enjoyed looking back. But the more recent ones I definitely couldn't do." He added, "I could probably go up to [third film] Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."

He thinks another adaptation might be "weird."
In the Variety interview, Grint was asked about the rumors of a Harry Potter TV series. "It'll be weird if it was a continuation kind of thing," he said. "I weirdly feel quite protective of that character. Even when I saw the stage shows, it was a very strange experience." But, he added, "if it's like a different group of friends, I guess it would be interesting."
Still, that doesn't mean he didn't enjoy watching the play. "It was very strange seeing someone else play Ron. A character I really thought I was," he told The Independent in 2018. "We merged into the same person. To see someone else's portrayal of it, it was like an out-of-body experience. It was very strange. I loved it."

He's moved on to many other roles since playing Ron.
The final Harry Potter movie was released in 2011, and in the 10 years since, Grint has continued acting. Most recently, he was on the TV series Snatch and Sick Note and in the miniseries The ABC Murders. He currently stars on M. Night Shyamalan's Apple TV+ series Servant, along with Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, and Nell Tiger Free.

He's also learning all about fatherhood.
Grint's daughter is not even a year old, so the 32-year-old actor is still getting used to life as a dad. "There's just so much to do with a baby. I had no idea," he told Variety. "You never kind of get an hour until you're in bed and then it's still tricky because Wednesday has got some teeth coming through. So nights kind of can go either way."
Several months after Grint and Groome welcomed Wednesday, Grint joined Instagram and shared a photo of her as his first post. "Hey Instagram….only 10 years late, but here I am," he wrote. "Grint on the Gram! Here to introduce you all to Wednesday G. Grint. Stay safe, Rupert."
